A witness and co-tenant of the deceased, Anthony Ezema, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Nsukka on Tuesday that Mr. Obodo hailed from Ovoko in Igboeze South Local Government Area.
Mr. Ezema said the deceased had been relating well with everybody in the compound before the incident.
“The deceased returned from his village around 11 a.m. on Monday. I was surprised when the younger brother, Chinweugo, raised an alarm this morning that he saw the brother hanging on a tree,’’ he said.
According to Mr. Ezeama, the younger brother of the deceased slept with him on the same bed on Monday night and did not know when he sneaked out to commit suicide.
“I am confused because I know he did not quarrel with anybody in the compound when he came back from the village yesterday.
“What I do not know is whether he had problems with anybody in the village where he spent the weekend,’’ he said.
The Public Relations Officer of the Enugu Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident.
Ms. Amaraizu said the police had commenced investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding the suicide.
“The police have been informed of the young man that committed suicide in Amegbu Nguru Nsukka, Nsukka local government.
“We have started investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding the suicide by late Tochukwu Obodo,’’ he said.
